GENERAL PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

- Please fill out the submission form completely and submit no later than 3/31/24, 11:59 p.m.
- All individuals who submit a proposal may be asked to review 1 proposal submission between 4/14/24-5/5/24.
- Authors will be notified around the middle of May 2024.
- Accepted presenters must register for the San Antonio Conference by 6/4/24 to be included in printed materials.
- Registration fees include annual membership.
- All individuals listed on an accepted proposal must be registered for the conference to be included in the program.
Presentations are invited from participants with interest in educational areas such as the topics below.
All proposals go through a double blind peer review process.

- PK-12 Leadership Preparation and Training - What knowledge, skills or strategies will teachers and leaders have to acquire to effectively educate youth in a global society? What policy changes – state, federal, and/or local – impact the field of education to ensure equitable opportunities for success in the education system?
- Higher Education Leadership - What knowledge, skills, or strategies will higher educational leaders have to acquire to effectively educate adults in a global society? What policy changes – state, federal, and/or local – impact colleges, universities, and adult learning to ensure equitable opportunities for success?
- International Leadership - What challenges face educational leaders throughout the world that impacts the larger context of educational policy and practice from a global perspective? How do leaders think broadly about the implications to education in vastly different situations, from geopolitical conflict and socioeconomic issues, to climate change and lack of adequate financial, human, technological, and structural resources?
- Justice, Equity, Democracy, & Inclusion - What changes in education pedagogy, policies, procedures, and practices are necessary to ensure that all vulnerable youth, irrespective of race, gender, immigrant status, sexual orientation, or ability receive a world class education? How do leaders address organizational change, systems and processes, and cultures to be more inclusive?
- Technology and Innovation - What technology and innovation can educational leaders leverage during times of great change? What new technologies have become available to build community and a sense of engagement in learning? How do leaders create and nurture innovations to advance education for all?
- Works in Progress - What research is currently in progress that outlines key issues and ideas in educational leadership, educational administrator preparation, or higher education studies?

Proposal Types
Proposal Types
A. Paper Sessions (20-25 minutes - 2 papers shared in a 50 minute session)
- On location in San Antonio
- Presenters and any co-presenters will present only to those on location.
- On location in San Antonio with live synchronous option
- Presenters will be on location in San Antonio but will have their session live streamed to the virtual audience at the same time. Any co-presenters will be able to join on location or via the online conference tool.
- Recording of the session for use in the conference website on demand library will be available and the responsibility of the presenter(s).
- Live synchronous format
- Presenters and any co-presenters will be responsible for using the conference website tool with Zoom.
- Recording of the session for use in the conference website on demand library will be available and the responsibility of the presenter(s).
Papers present reports of significant work or integrative reviews in research, development, applications, and societal issues related to all aspects of the conference topics. This would be a formal presentation of research.
Presentation time: 20 minutes and 5 minutes Q/A
Submission proposal length: Up to 8,000 characters (about 1,000 words)
The submission should clearly indicate:
- Who is the target population for the research;
- The major aspects of the research;
- The context or motivation for the research; and
- Possible solutions or opportunities for collaborative partnerships to improve the problem.
B. Asynchronous Pre-Recorded Session: Research/Book Talks/Papers/Works in Progress
Papers present reports of significant work or integrative reviews in research, development, applications, and societal issues related to all aspects of the conference topics. This would be a formal presentation of research.
Presentation time: up to 20 minutes with virtual Q/A
All presenters will be responsible for uploading his/her own videos in the presenter video sharing center of the conference app/website. Instructions will be provided.
C. Pre-recorded videos must be submitted by July 20th, 2024.
- Although pre-recorded, all videos will have a scheduled start time.
- All videos will be provided to participants in the conference website on demand library.

D. Roundtable Discussion [2-3 papers shared at one table on location in San Antonio]
Presentation time: 50 minutes shared between 2-3 presentations
Submission proposal length: Up to 8000 characters (about 1000 words)
Showcasing innovations and insights in education. Presentations will cover creative and learning technologies. Practitioners can share activities, tools, and curriculum currently experiencing success at their institution! This session will have 2-3 presenters in one room for a more informal conversation about a similar topic rather than a formal presentation.
E. Poster Presentations - Will be presented during the President's Reception in San Antonio, July 30th from 5-6:15pm
Materials provided- Easel
Poster sessions enable researchers and non-commercial developers to demonstrate and discuss their latest results and developments in progress in order to gain feedback and to establish contact with similar projects. Description should emphasize the problem, what was done, and why the work is important. Poster/Demonstration sessions researchers discuss their proposed research or their latest results and developments in progress in order to gain feedback and to establish contact with researchers of similar interests or projects.
Poster/Demonstration-proposals-must-include: description of the planned Poster Research; should emphasize the problem, problem context or setting, research questions, methodology, what was done, and why the work is important and findings, if applicable.
Recommended content for the poster includes:
- A clear statement of the purpose or goals of the research (i.e., the primary research questions or issues being addressed)
- A brief summary of the theoretical or conceptual foundation for the work
- A description of the methodology being used and the project findings (if applicable), and the theoretical and/or practical significance and implications of the research.
- Make your poster visually appealing.
- Be creative.
- Incorporate color.
- Use photographs, graphs, charts, maps, and the like.
- Be attentive to the layout and placement of your materials.
F. Research in Progress
To encourage participation by graduate students and junior faculty, seminars will be scheduled to allow graduate students and junior faculty to summarize research proposals, including theses or dissertations still in the developmental stage that have not yet been defended. In these sessions, a distinguished researcher will provide feedback to presenters. A distinguished researcher will lead session discussions. Students and junior faculty who wish to submit a proposal for this seminar should prepare a 2-page, typed (size 12 font), single-spaced summary. The summary should include (a) a statement of the problem, (b) the significance of the study, and (c) a description of the proposed methods and procedures. Please be sure to indicate that the submission is research in progress.
G. Interactive Workshop (45 minutes on location in San Antonio, space is limited)
Workshops are intended to enhance the skills and broaden the perspective of their attendees. These sessions will focus on innovative teaching strategies and methods that will be shared and demonstrated in interactive ways. Proposals can focus on teaching practices that are applicable for P-12, higher education, and professional development.
Note: Proposals must detail what activities will be done during the session and how participants will be engaged.
Proceedings Info: ICPEL does not publish a proceedings publication but we do encourage presenters to submit their papers for consideration to one of our three peer-reviewed journals; International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation, Education Leadership Review, or Education Leadership Review of Doctoral Research.
